Legislation Watch: Louisiana Senate adds RHTP reporting

Louisiana SR198: A Senate resolution directing the Louisiana Department of Health to report back to the Legislature on how it is implementing the state’s Rural Health Transformation Program. Louisiana was awarded more than $208 million in the December CMS round — among the highest per-capita awards in the country — and the state projects drawing down north of $1 billion in total federal funding over the program’s five years. Red River Radio

The resolution is the Legislature’s response to a program that, until now, has been stood up almost entirely through the executive branch. Governor Jeff Landry signed an executive order in April creating the Office of Rural Health Transformation and Sustainability inside LDH, along with an RHTP Advisory Council to steer the money. WAFB SR198 inserts a reporting requirement back to the Senate, giving lawmakers a recurring window into how the office spends and allocates the federal award.

SR198 was signed on June 1, 2026 after passing the Senate 36-0.
