Legislation Watch
Tennessee lawmakers skeptical over strings attached to Trump rural health grant program, (focused on SB2287 / HB2597). Snip:
“There are a number of these pieces of legislation that probably are not going to pass, so we don’t want to commit dollars to projects … on something that is going to get clawed back,” Sen. Bo Watson, a Hixson Republican, said.

If the legislature fails to pass the bills this session, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which administers the program, estimated it would claw back about $8.4 million of Tennessee’s first-year funding, Hendrix said, in addition to $10 million in future years.
West Virginia secured $199 million through the Rural Health Transformation Fund to launch its Rural Health Transformation Program, but the state is still waiting on legislative authorization to use the money.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey said the state has both a plan and funding in place and called the delay unacceptable.
“We can not afford to delay the future of Rural Health Transformation in West Virginia,” Morrisey said. “Now I think it’s outrageous that here we are at the end of session and something that should have happened in the first week hasn’t occurred yet — it’s terrible on every level. We may very well pay a price for the delay.”
